About ‘Isolated Sounds’
‘Isolated Sounds’ features profiles on producers, managers, promoters, booking agents, music licensers, film makers, photographers and media workers who all contribute to the development of the Perth music industry and scene.
The purpose of the website is to pay homage to these people; to find out what makes them tick and how they feel about a music and creative industries scene which is brimming with world-class talent.
The website is run solely by music journalist Christina Ballico.
First gaining experience in the music industry at age 16 doing work experience (read: cleaning and getting lunches) at a recording studio, she then did a short stint in television production, before spending two years in community radio. Having decided she wanted to try something new, Christina went into print journalism, quickly finding her niche in the field of music journalism.
In 2009 Christina graduated with Honours from a Bachelor of Communications majoring in Journalism and Mass Communication and is now undertaking a PhD.
Her honours dissertation, entitled ‘Regulating the Notes: A case study into the impact of government regulation on the live performance s of Perth musicians’ explored the impact noise regulations, copyright revenue and government funding has on the ability to, and experience of, musicians performing live. A paper based on this research was presented at the 2009 WAMi Music Business Conference.
